History

Presently number of citizens is more than 120 thousands, situated on the river with the same name, situated in Warmińsko-Mazurski province,  near the Wislany Lagoon, on the shortest track from Western Europe to Kaliningrad's District and baltic's countries. Elblag is developing suplly, is administrative and industrial center, has many scientifics, cultural institutions, and  touristic attractions .
Origins of the town are known since 1237. In that time on the bank of Elblag river Teutonics established fortified castle. Arround the castle was growing merchant village, which obtained municipal laws in 1246. In XV century Elblag was very important port center and belonged to hansa's cities union. How rich was society of Elblag can prove archaeological examinations in Old Market. There are thousands amber's articles, pottery, glass and metals etc.
In 1440, citizens of Elblag joined Prussian Union. After Grunwald's battle in 1410, Elblag made an obeisance to polish king Wladyslaw Jagiello, and devoted teutonic' castle,. However , part of the Polish Kingdom Elblag beace after the second Torunski Peace in 1466. The city obtained numerous of priveleges from polish kings, in local dockyard was conctructed first polish warship  galleon Dragon. In 1577 Stefan Batory for support against war with Gdansk,  granted new prvileges.   Soon was set up English Eastland Company .
